After an interesting start to 2022, the project management team has been busy. The planned forestry maintenance was successful and the resources group has begun shifting allocations within the land holdings. The eastern production group expects expanded yield this year from the apple orchard (example piccie included). They do caution that proper care and favorable weather are required to hit these expectations.

The norther production group reports that the planting at the farmette has been completed and they are now waiting to see what happens. 

No reports have been received yet from the other production groups. (slackers.)

The maintenance department reports that parts are being ordered to repair equipment which failed after the scheduled Spring maintenance window had closed. Crews are being allocated awaiting the receipt of the parts. No computer chips are involved, so they expect timely delivery .

Further reports likely once it is possible to take pictures of actual crops, not just dirt.

Well space fans, this years agricultural experiment is done. The strawberries did well, there were even some tomatoes, which we did not plant. The orchard produced 5 or 6 units this year, so an improvement over last season. In other news, pumpkins were seen growing in various locations. They were enjoyed all season and provided this season’s decorations about the house.

Planning has begun for next season, possibly allocating more land to food production. Also, the wooded areas are receiving some much needed attention. The grounds and facilities teams are expecting a busy year next season. One anticipated project will be the conversion of one of the storage areas to office space. Our busy team will appreciate this.

Well, it’s breakfast somewhere, and will be so here in 3 hours. Some sleep is in order. Stay safe. NBW

Overall, 2020 is not as expected. Our 16 square farmette did OK, but the orchard did not produce any fruit this year. On the bright side, we have received several tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, 2 jalapenos, 3 watermelons are on their way along with 1 cantaloupe. On the under-producing side, our apple tree yielded no apples this year. We are hoping for a big turn around next spring. 

We do have 2 rouge watermelon plants, one at the well, one by the front porch. They have had very nice blossoms, but there are some concerns as to whether they will produce any watermelons before everything freezes solid. Stayed tuned for updates.

morning space fans. Today’s topic is cool Christmas presents. First up: French press coffee pots. A disclosure. I like coffee. Plain. I usually drink coffee a few times a year when it just sounds good. This Christmas I received a French press coffee pot and a bag of Starbucks coffee. This was cup number 1. It will not be the last. I am now also accepting Starbucks gift cards so I can afford my new hobby. Addiction. Beverage. I have never owned a coffee pot. My coffee has always come from McDonald’s. Small, black. Drive thru. Since long before ‘gourmet coffee’ was a thing. The French press did not seem like a coffee pot. Looks were deceiving. It makes great coffee. It’s kind of fun. I missed not hearing the percolating sound of the coffee pots I remember from my childhood. I could claim the old ways were best, but I’m not always convinced. Alas, I’m losing focus. Perhaps another cup is required. Yes. Indeed. I’ll update as I expand to more flavors. Till later. NBW

We had a self-starter tomato plant this year. It had one tiny tomato, the bugs ate it before we saw it was ready. Last week I checked on our intrepid tomato plant, and it had 2 tomatoes growing (about dime sized), and one new flower. Way to start Fall in the midwest! It is being monitored to see if we get tomatoes, the vine dies , or snow buries everything. Stay tuned for updates.
